Directed by Ira Sachs and set to premiere at the 79th Cannes Film Festival on May 20, 2026, The Man I Love is a poignant drama set in late 1980s New York City during the height of the AIDS crisis.
The film stars Rami Malek as Jimmy George, a celebrated downtown performance artist who, while navigating a life-threatening illness, finds a transformative final chance at love and artistic expression after meeting a new neighbor.
Written by Sachs and his longtime collaborator Maurício Zacharias, this “musical fantasia” explores the resilience of the artistic community through a stellar ensemble cast including Tom Sturridge, Luther Ford, Rebecca Hall, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach.
Following its debut in competition for the Palme d’Or, the film will head to the Sydney Film Festival in June, with a wider theatrical release expected later in 2026.
