International drag performer and DJ Lady Bunny is scheduled to bring her national tour, Bunny Butchers Broadway!, to Los Angeles for a single performance this month. The adult-oriented musical comedy show will take place at the Renberg Theatre on Friday, July 10, 2026.
The production marks a return to theater-focused satire for the performer, combining stand-up comedy, social commentary, and parodies of well-known theatrical productions.
A Satirical Take on Musical Theater and Pop Culture
Bunny Butchers Broadway! features rewritten, adult-themed parodies of songs from mainstream musicals, including Wicked, Dreamgirls, Mamma Mia!, Beauty and the Beast, and Evita. The lyrical rewrites shift the original subject matter toward contemporary cultural issues, substance use satire, and modern discourse surrounding gender pronouns.
In addition to musical theater, the performance targets broader pop culture and current events, including the pharmaceutical trend of weight-loss drugs.
“Right now, I’m not on Ozempic to lose weight,” Lady Bunny noted of the current societal landscape. “I’m taking it to save money on food!”
The production also features sketches regarding high-profile public figures such as billionaire Elon Musk, a “Drag Update” medley parodying alumni from the RuPaul’s Drag Race franchise, and tributes to legacy artists like Cher and Liza Minnelli.
From University Theater to Drag Autonomy
Born in Tennessee, Lady Bunny’s early exposure to performance began in traditional theater through youth casting opportunities at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, appearing in productions of Oliver! and Gypsy.
“My father worked at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, and when the university needed a child in shows like Oliver!, Gypsy, or even Shakespeare, they’d cast me,” the performer recalled. “In The Winter’s Tale, I played Prince Mamillius, who died in the first act. I HATED that!”
The constraints of traditional scripts and limited roles eventually led her to transition into the drag medium, which offered complete creative autonomy and ultimately shaped the structure of the current touring show.
Production Design
The Los Angeles performance will feature five distinct costume changes designed by David Dalrymple. Dalrymple has a decades-long collaborative history with Lady Bunny dating back to the 1980s, and his portfolio includes costume design for prominent entertainment figures such as RuPaul and Bette Midler.
“David’s been dressing me since the ‘80s,” Lady Bunny said. “He’s created all five of my looks in this show, and honey, they are spectacular. If the jokes don’t blind you, the sequins will.”
Bunny Butchers Broadway! starring Lady Bunny takes place on Friday, July 10, 2026 at The Renberg Theatre (Located at the Lily Tomlin/Jane Wagner Cultural Arts Center), 1125 N McCadden Pl, Los Angeles, CA 90038.
