Dutch Prime Minister Rob Jetten Warns of Organized Anti-Gay Movement

In an exclusive cover interview with Attitude magazine, Rob Jetten—who made history in February 2026 as the youngest and first openly gay Prime Minister of the Netherlands—warned of a “very well-organized enemy” actively coordinating an anti-LGBTQ+ political agenda across Europe.
Cautioning against societal complacency, Jetten called on the public to remain resilient and fiercely reject the harmful rhetoric being spread by far-right factions, fundamentalist networks, and online anti-rights campaigns.
During the interview, the Dutch leader outlined a clear, deliberate playbook used by conservative and extremist movements to erode hard-won civil liberties. He explained that these attacks almost always begin with transgender individuals as an initial testing ground. Once trans rights and healthcare protections are successfully undermined, the exact same political mechanisms are turned against women’s bodily autonomy, followed swiftly by the rollback of marriage equality and non-discrimination protections for gay people.
“People should realize that attacks on trans people are just the first step. The second is to attack basic rights for women. And the next is to attack basic rights for gay people.”
The ultimate goal, Jetten cautioned, is a broader unraveling of basic rights for racial minorities and democratic institutions as a whole.
Beyond political parties, Jetten placed significant blame on major social media platforms and tech companies. He criticized their algorithmic amplification of hate speech and recent rollbacks in content moderation, emphasizing that unchecked online disinformation directly translates into real-world violence and harassment. In response, his administration has committed targeted state resources toward combating digital disinformation, strengthening public safety, and bolstering LGBTQ+ educational initiatives across the Netherlands.
Alongside his political warnings, Jetten shared personal reflections on his life with his fiancé, Argentine Olympic field hockey player Nicolás Keenan.
Recalling his teenage years questioning his sexuality in a small Dutch village, Jetten admitted he once doubted he would ever find love, marry, or build a family. Revealing that he and Keenan hope to have children in the future, the Prime Minister offered a poignant message of hope to queer youth everywhere, proving that authentic living and high political achievement are not mutually exclusive.
