WEHO LEADER RJ HOLGUIN RECOVERING AFTER
SPINAL SURGERY
West Hollywood community leader RJ Holguin—owner of My 12 Step Store and chair of the West Hollywood Older Adults Advisory Board—is recovering from spinal surgery following a severe neck injury. Crossing a flood-damaged street after the recent Sunset Boulevard water main break, Holguin jumped to avoid an oncoming car, fell, and suffered central cord syndrome. Following successful surgery at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center to relieve spinal cord pressure, he is now in inpatient rehabilitation as strength and sensation return. Facing a weeks-long recovery while his apartment remains without power or water, Holguin expressed deep gratitude: “I’m grateful for all the love, prayers, and positive thoughts.”

JACLYN SMITH TO APPEAR AT GAY DAYS ANAHEIM FOR “CHARLIE’S ANGELS” 50TH
Original Charlie’s Angels star Jaclyn Smith will make a special appearance at Gay Days Anaheim on Sept. 20 for the show’s 50th anniversary. Hosted at Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel & Spa during the 28th annual event (Sept. 18–20), Smith will discuss her career and new memoir, I Once Knew a Guy Named Charlie, followed by a book signing. Event tickets include a copy of the memoir, with proceeds benefiting AbilityFirst, where Smith has served as a spokesperson for over 30 years.

HAYLEY KIYOKO TO HEADLINE THE DINAH FESTIVAL
Pop artist Hayley Kiyoko will headline The Dinah in Palm Springs (Sept. 30–Oct. 4), marking her first time topping the bill for the premier queer women’s festival. Kiyoko, often nicknamed “Lesbian Jesus” by fans, said she was excited to perform at the festival. Founded in 1991, the event enters a new era under new owners Barkow and Garcia (BellRose Productions), who aim to expand inclusivity while honoring the festival’s rich legacy.

FORMER CFRENZ REOPENS AS AMIXX NIGHT CLUB
The long-standing San Fernando Valley LGBTQ+ venue at 7026 Reseda Blvd. has officially reopened as AMIXX Night Club. Following the closure of CFRENZ on New Year’s Day, the new four-person ownership team debuted their refreshed club concept on July 24, welcoming the community to a new chapter for the space.

HILLCREST’S NORMAL STREET PROMENADE NEARS COMPLETION
San Diego’s Normal Street Promenade in Hillcrest is set to open by year’s end. Alongside major storm drain upgrades to prevent chronic flooding, the project features nearly 100 new trees, shade structures, seating, a restored 1940s trolley car, and North America’s first rainbow-colored bike lane. The city- and SANDAG-funded space will serve as Hillcrest’s first public park and LGBTQ+ gathering hub.
