Hollywood veteran and Rome-born producer Gianni Nunnari is teaming up with acclaimed author Brian Selznick to bring his landmark gay young adult romance novel, Run Away With Me, to the screen.
Nunnari—renowned for producing heavy-hitting blockbusters like the 300 franchise, Immortals, and From Dusk Til Dawn, as well as serving as executive producer on The Departed and Se7en—will spearhead the adaptation through his Hollywood Gang Productions banner, with Deborah Belford de Furia attached as executive producer.
Published by Scholastic in 2025, Run Away With Me marked Selznick’s first novel written specifically for a young adult audience, blending prose with more than 100 pages of his signature illustrations.
Set against the backdrop of 1980s Rome, the story follows Danny, a 16-year-old American spending a transformative summer in Italy whose life is completely upended when he meets Angelo, a mysterious local Italian boy.
Selznick is adapting his own book for the screen, ensuring his distinct visual storytelling style carries seamlessly into the film adaptation.
An official production start date or filming schedule has not yet been announced.
