The wait is nearly over. Netflix has officially confirmed that the second season of Japan’s first gay dating reality series, The Boyfriend, will premiere on January 13, 2026.
This season moves away from the sunny coastlines of Season 1 and embraces a “slow-burn winter romance” theme.
The season will consist of 15 episodes (an increase from Season 1’s 10 episodes) released in weekly batches over four weeks.
The production has relocated to Hokkaido, Japan’s northernmost island, known for its heavy snowfall and picturesque landscapes.
The men will live together in a cozy, snow-bound lodge for roughly two months.
The iconic peppermint-colored coffee truck returns, but this time it will serve hot drinks against a backdrop of frost and snow.
Producers have teased a more “delicate hue” for this season, focusing on quiet moments and connections that grow slowly in the cold.
