The tragedy surrounding the death of Hollywood legend Rob Reiner (78) and his wife, Michelle Reiner, intensified dramatically today after the Los Angeles Police Department confirmed the arrest of their son, Nick Reiner.

Nick Reiner, one of the couple’s three children, was taken into custody this morning in connection with the fatal stabbing that occurred at the family’s home yesterday, December 14, 2025.

The shocking double homicide had already sent waves of grief through the entertainment and political activism communities. The news that their son has been named a suspect has added another layer of shock and disbelief.

Rob Reiner was renowned not only for directing classics like The Princess Bride and Misery, but also for his decades of fierce dedication to social justice. Both he and Michelle were known as tireless advocates for progressive causes, including education and civil rights.

Reiner was a particularly strong LGBTQ+ ally, often using his considerable influence to champion equality.

He was highly visible in the campaign against Proposition 8 and consistently used his public platform to support marriage equality and push for non-discrimination protections across the country.

Reiner was widely respected for bringing his public conscience to bear on critical issues, cementing the family’s status as a key voice for marginalized communities.

The LAPD has released minimal information regarding the circumstances or potential motive for the stabbings, stating only that a formal investigation is underway and that Nick Reiner is being held on suspicion of homicide.

Rob and Michelle Reiner are survived by their two other children, Jake and Romy. The entertainment world is now grappling with the loss of one of its most outspoken voices and the devastating nature of the crime and subsequent arrest.

RIP.
