Former Los Angeles Police Department officer Mitch Grobeson, believed to be the first openly gay member of the force, was arrested in West Hollywood on Sunday, December 8, 2024, and charged with assault with a deadly weapon. He was held at the West Hollywood Sheriff’s Station, reports WEHO TIMES.

According to booking number 6932089, Grobeson was charged with ADW W/FIREARM, an assault with a deadly weapon involving a firearm. A source told WEHO TIMES that West Hollywood sheriff’s deputies responded to a domestic abuse call.

Grobeson, a former LAPD sergeant, initially sued the city of Los Angeles in 1988, alleging discriminatory practices against gay and lesbian employees within the department. He won reinstatement as part of a landmark settlement in 1993, which required the LAPD to end discriminatory practices.
