Queer Friendly Recovery

Vanity Wellness Center and The Tarzana Recovery Center warmly welcome the LGBTQ community

BY VICTOR MELAMED

Numerous studies have found the the LGBTQ community is statistically at higher risk for substance use disorder development than those who identify as heterosexual, reports the Recovery Research Institute

Multiple subgroups exist within the LGBTQ+ community, and each group holds its own individual sensitivities and unique needs that may need to be addressed in order to achieve long-term recovery.

Treatment programs should address the specialized needs of members of the LGBTQ+ community for a more well-rounded and inclusive path to recovery. This would include clinician sensitivity to the additional stigma/discrimination that such individuals may face in addition to their substance use disorder and creating a truly person-centered approach to addressing their needs more effectively.

“My life was truly saved by both of these recovery centers. I really have to commend Armen, the owner of both establishments, for providing such a great and comfortable platform for me to get sober and to stay sober.”

Two local recovery facilities in Los Angles check all of the above boxes.

The Tarzana Recovery Center, a residential detox facility, warmly welcomes the LGBTQ community. During your stay there, you’ll receive the education, therapy, treatment, and more that you need to be able to live your life on your terms.

Additionally, for local outpatient treatment—a safe and welcoming environment is what you will experience at Vanity Wellness Center.

Valerie Jamadar, 23, a trans woman, has recently been to both facilities and can attest to that welcoming environment.

“I have been struggling with addiction my entire life, I started using when I was 15 years old and progressively moved up and up and up in my drug habits… my main issue was methamphetamine  as well as ketamine. I was escorting and partying and it all brought me down a troubled road. I decided I needed help from my addiction when I was at my rock bottom … I chose to save my life,” reveals Jamadar.

“I was referred the Tarzana Recovery Center through a friend who also went through the program. After my time there I went to the Vanity Wellness Center for outpatient treatment,” says Jamadar.

“I would rate them both an absolute 10. My life was truly saved by both of these recovery centers. I really have to commend Armen, the owner of both establishments, for providing such a great and comfortable platform for me to get sober and to stay sober.”

“I am hopefully inspiring so many others to get sober, it is such a rough environment and so many young trans individuals field there’s no way out and that’s how we’re gonna have to live for the rest of our lives, and I really want to be a testament that it’s not and an inspiration. My advice would be is that we are strong women and we deserve to be the women that we should be remembered by and that we have a become.”
