New Survey: LGBTQ+ Desire for Parenthood on the Rise

A recent Pew Research Center survey, comparing data from 2013 and 2025, reveals a notable increase in the number of LGBTQ+ adults under 50 who want to become parents.

The 2025 survey found that one-third of LGBTQ+ adults in this age group who don’t have children hope to have them someday.

This marks a 5% increase from a similar poll conducted in 2013, which found that 28% of LGBTQ+ adults wanted children. The data shows a clear upward trend for the LGBTQ+ community.

This growing desire for parenthood within the LGBTQ+ community comes at a critical time. There are widespread concerns that the Supreme Court could overturn Obergefell v. Hodges, the landmark case that legalized same-sex marriage nationwide.

The court’s recent decision to overturn Roe v. Wade has heightened these fears, as some justices have indicated a willingness to revisit other established rights. If marriage equality were to be overturned, the legal right to marry would likely be left to individual states.

Regardless of any Supreme Court decision, the path to parenthood for LGBTQ+ individuals and couples, whether married or single, can involve a number of options, including adoption, surrogacy, and various reproductive technologies.

KinPath, a gay owned and operated international surrogacy agency, supports :GBTQIA+ individuals and couples on their journey to parenthood.
