Cooper Koch, the openly gay actor who publicly came out in a 2021 interview with The Gay Times, is set to join an all-star cast in Luca Guadagnino’s new film, “Artificial.”
Koch, still basking in the glow of his critically acclaimed and Emmy-nominated performance as Erik Menendez in “Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story,” will appear alongside Andrew Garfield and Yura Borisov in the Amazon MGM Studios production.
While specifics about the comedic drama are tightly under wraps, it’s understood that ‘Artificial’ will explore the complex world of artificial intelligence, with whispers suggesting inspiration from the real-life 2023 OpenAI controversy involving CEO Sam Altman.
The screenplay was penned by Simon Rich (“Man Seeking Woman”), who will also produce the film alongside Heyday Films’ David Heyman (of “Harry Potter” fame) and Jeffrey Clifford, as well as Jennifer Fox.
This marks another significant leap for Koch, whose powerful portrayal of Erik Menendez not only earned him widespread recognition but also a Golden Globe nomination.
His previous work includes the films “They/Them” and “Swallowed.”
Guadagnino, the acclaimed director behind “Call Me by Your Name” and “Challengers,” continues his fruitful collaboration with Amazon MGM Studios. The studio is also slated to release his upcoming thriller “After the Hunt,” starring Andrew Garfield and Julia Roberts, later this year.
