Channing Tatum has never shied away from baring it all, from his iconic Magic Mike performances to his latest, more unconventional role. In the upcoming film Roofman, Tatum takes “exposure” to a literal new level, not for dollar bills, but as a sudsy, nude fugitive fleeing through a Toys “R” Us.
Set to hit theaters on October 10th, Roofman tells the unbelievable true story of Jeffrey Manchester, a convicted felon who escaped prison and lived undetected in the ceiling of a North Carolina Toys “R” Us for six months. Tatum steps into the role of this oddly charming criminal, bringing a blend of humor and humanity to the part. The recently released trailer offers a hilarious peek at Tatum’s Manchester caught mid-shower by Peter Dinklage‘s character, the store manager. What ensues is a slippery, sudsy chase scene through the toy aisles, with Tatum fully committed to the hilariously chaotic moment.
Beyond the comedic nudity and action-packed hijinks, Roofman also delves into the surprisingly heartfelt story of a deeply flawed yet undeniably human character.Tatum shared that his conversations with the real Jeffrey Manchester profoundly impacted him. “He’s made some bad decisions, for sure,” Tatum noted, “But he’s alive, he’s sharp, and he’s kind. There’s something about him that just stays with you.”
With a stellar cast including Peter Dinklage, Juno Temple, LaKeith Stanfield, Uzo Aduba, and Ben Mendelsohn, Roofman is shaping up to be a must-see this fall. Blending action, comedy, and a compelling redemption story, this film promises to be an unexpected cinematic treat—much like the man who once secretly resided above the Barbie aisle.
