St. Mary’s CARE Center in Long Beach provides comprehensive care to LGBTQ+ community members

After 10 years of planning, St. Mary Medical Center in Long Beach recently unveiled its renovated CARE Center.

The CARE Center provides comprehensive care to LGBTQ+ community members, including HIV/AIDS treatment, PrEP and PEP for prevention, mental health services, housing assistance, dental care, social services, and health education.

Established in 1986, the CARE Center was the first managed network in the nation providing care to people with HIV/AIDS, reveals Paul Lovely, executive director for St. Mary’s CARE Center.

PrEP and PEP are now the most common services offered, with a focus on preventative care, states Lovely.

The recent renovation offers new equipment, furnishings, and a more comfortable space for patients. It also features artwork by local artist Sergio Ramirez and an art installation honoring those who have died from AIDS.

The CARE Center remains committed to serving the LGBTQ+ community regardless of insurance status. They assist patients who are uninsured, underinsured, or receive medical services elsewhere.
