Advocates Secure Return of Pride Flag to Stonewall

The Trump administration will restore the Pride flag to Manhattan’s Stonewall National Monument following a settlement with several nonprofit organizations.

The flag was removed in February 2026 after a Department of the Interior directive restricted agency-managed sites to only “authorized” flags.

This sparked a lawsuit alleging a “pattern of systemic exclusion” and selective enforcement, as other controversial symbols—like the Confederate flag—remained at other national parks.

By settling, the administration avoids a prolonged First Amendment legal battle. For advocates, the flag’s return marks a vital victory for LGBTQ+ visibility at the historic birthplace of the modern liberation movement.
