West Hollywood Councilmember and former Planned Parenthood Los Angeles Vice President John Erickson has officially launched his campaign for California State Senate District 24, reports WEHO TIMES.
Erickson, who seeks to succeed termed-out State Senator Ben Allen, has garnered early support from a broad coalition of prominent local and state leaders, including California State Treasurer Fiona Ma and Los Angeles County Supervisors Lindsey P. Horvath, Janice Hahn, and Hilda Solis.
“After November 5th, I felt a tremendous responsibility to step up and utilize my years of experience in local government and the nonprofit world to protect our democracy and give back to Californians the rights, protections, and programs that the Trump Administration is taking away,” Erickson stated, emphasizing his commitment to making the 24th Senate District a desirable place for families.
Erickson’s campaign highlights his strong record on issues like reproductive rights, healthcare access, public safety, environmental sustainability, and housing.
As a West Hollywood Councilmember and former mayor, he has championed progressive policies, including those addressing homelessness, aging-in-place housing, and small business protections.
State Treasurer Fiona Ma lauded his fiscal leadership, noting his ability to generate a $30 million surplus for West Hollywood while increasing investments in vital services. Supervisor Lindsey P. Horvath highlighted Erickson’s unique skill set, stemming from his experience as an elected official, former VP of Planned Parenthood Los Angeles, and advocate for equity.
A longtime advocate for LGBTQ+ rights and gender equity, Erickson currently serves as Chief of Staff at the Alliance for a Better Community and holds leadership positions in various organizations, including the California Contract Cities Association and the National Organization for Women (NOW).Originally from Ripon, Wisconsin, Erickson holds a Ph.D. and dual master’s degree from Claremont Graduate University.
