Firestorm Erupts After Congressman Declares Homosexuality “Has No Place in America”

Andy Ogles (R-TN)

A social media post by Congressman Andy Ogles (R-TN) stating that “Homosexuality has no place in America. Happy Nuclear Family Month” sparked immediate, widespread bipartisan condemnation.

Published during the first week of Pride Month, the post prompted rare public rebukes from high-ranking members of his own party alongside sharp criticism from Democrats and LGBTQ+ advocates.

Republican House Speaker Mike Johnson publicly distanced himself from the remarks, calling them “untoward,” while House Majority Leader Steve Scalise labeled them “reprehensible.”

Representative Mike Lawler (R-NY) openly criticized Ogles on X, calling the post “an absolutely idiotic statement” and defending his gay and lesbian constituents.

On the Democratic side, House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries slammed Ogles for attempting to divide the country, while Representative Yassamin Ansari called for a potential censure vote.

Following the intense backlash, the post was deleted, and Ogles issued an apology, blaming the message on an error by a communications staffer while he was away from his phone…
