Ten years after the original series finale left fans with a tantalizing question mark, the charming con artist Neal Caffrey is officially plotting his comeback.
Deadline reports that series creator Jeff Eastin confirmed that a revival—titled White Collar: Renaissance—is officially in development at 20th Television, with out actor Matt Bomer confirmed to reprise his iconic role.
Bomer, who previously expressed great enthusiasm for revisiting the role that made him a household name, will once again star as the impeccably dressed criminal-turned-FBI-consultant, Neal Caffrey. The new project is designed as a sequel, picking up the story years after the original ending, which saw Neal faking his death to escape his handlers.
The new installment will also carry an emotional weight, as it plans to address the real-life passing of co-star Willie Garson, who played Neal’s loyal (and paranoid) sidekick, Mozzie. Eastin and the cast have indicated that the script will “honor Willie… in a profound way,” treating his character’s absence with sensitivity.
Creator Jeff Eastin recently revealed the title of the pilot episode as “Masquerade,”a fittingly cryptic name for a show about disguises and hidden identities.
The project is currently being shopped to networks, fueled by renewed fan interest following the original series’ successful run on streaming platforms.
