During a Q&A session at the Telluride Film Festival, actor Josh O’Connor shared an unexpected story about filming a scene with his co-star Paul Mescal for their new film, The History of Sound.
O’Connor revealed that one of the more intimate moments between their characters involves him spitting into Mescal’s mouth.
The film, a queer romance directed by Oliver Hermanus, is based on a short story of the same name. It follows two young men, David (Mescal) and Lionel (O’Connor), who meet in 1917 and develop a deep connection as they travel to preserve folk songs.
The spitting scene, which has been described as a pivotal and “horny” moment, takes place before the characters become physically intimate.
O’Connor described the filming process as a bit messy, saying the spit “dribbled” down his chin during the first take while Mescal was waiting with his mouth open.
The story, which O’Connor recounted with a laugh, has since gone viral, with fans on social media expressing their excitement and amusement over the scene.
The History of Sound is set to be released in the US on September 12.
