YOUTH MENTAL HEALTH & SUPPORT SYSTEM FINDINGS
The Trevor Project released two-year findings from Project SPARK (Studying Protective And RisK factors), a national study tracking nearly 1,700 LGBTQ+ youth across the U.S. While participants reported rising discrimination, anxiety (54% to 63%), and depression (43% to 51%), overall self-harm dropped from 39% to 34% and suicide attempts fell from 9% to 7%. The findings underscore the critical role of affirming environments: youth with strong family support had 45% lower odds of suicidal ideation, while experiences of gender euphoria reduced ideation by 50%. Additionally, 91% of youth receiving affirming mental health care rated it as helpful, up from 64% at baseline.
