Rom-Com “Playing Around” Uses Movie Parodies to Survive Modern Dating. WATCH!

Scene from “Playing Around”

The sparkling Colombian romantic comedy series Playing Around (Soy German Andres Yanez) follows German (James Camargo De Alba), a 29-year-old living in Bogotá who is determined to find a stable partner before turning 30.

Navigating a chaotic modern dating scene filled with ghosting, commitment-phobes, and dating app disasters, German’s quest for love quickly becomes a hilarious journey of self-discovery.

What sets Playing Around apart is German’s active imagination. Whenever a date goes horribly wrong, the show morphs into cinematic daydream mode, parodying famous Hollywood movie tropes to mirror his real-life frustrations: he confronts a distracted hook-up in a witty send-up of Notting Hill, literalizes being ghosted by freezing on a floating door ala Titanic, and dodges a complex polyamorous arrangement in a sci-fi, Matrix-style choice.

Digital Release On Streaming Platforms: June 30th.
