Dressed in fishnets, corsets, and pearls, Curry famously immortalized the role of Dr. Frank-N-Furter in the 1975 classic The Rocky Horror Picture Show, creating a defining touchstone for queer expression, drag performance, and gender-nonconforming freedom. For over five decades, his electric pansexual charisma transformed midnight movie screenings into vital sanctuaries for LGBTQ+ youth, elevating camp to high art and gifting generations of outsiders an enduring liberation anthem.
Beyond his foundational queer legacy, Curry built a brilliant, sprawling career that spanned stage and screen. He terrified audiences as Pennywise the Clown in 1990’s It, delivered masterful comedic performances in hits like Clue, Home Alone 2, and Muppet Treasure Island, and earned three Tony Award nominations for his stage work in Amadeus, My Favorite Year, and Spamalot.
