In a week of intense political upheaval that saw the Dutch electorate narrowly reject a return to the far-right, Rob Jetten, the 38-year-old leader of the centrist D66 party, emerged as one of the Netherlands’ brightest stars.

Jetten’s D66 secured a historic victory in the snap general elections, tying for the most seats and positioning the openly gay politician to lead the charge in forming the next coalition—and potentially become the country’s youngest-ever Prime Minister.

However, the excitement of the political win was matched by a profound personal moment.

Throughout the dramatic election night, the 38-year-old leader was not only reveling in the thrill of the win but also sharing tender moments with his fiancé, Olympic athlete Nicolás “Nico” Keenan.

Keenan (28), is a bisexual professional field hockey player for the Argentina national team, who competed in the 2020 Tokyo and 2024 Paris Summer Olympics.

The couple, who met in 2022 and announced their engagement in November 2024 with the caption “Soon to be Mr&Mr,” shared their election night journey with a popular, heartfelt social media clip.

Keenan has been a visible and unwavering supporter of Jetten’s political career.

The prospect of Jetten forming a government means the Netherlands could soon see its first “First Gentleman,”an outcome that is viewed across Europe as a significant cultural and political statement against rising hard-right movements on the continent.
