Beyond the Outbursts: The Push to Bench a Deranged Commander-in-Chief

In the wake of President Trump’s recent string of erratic behavior – ranging from public attacks on the Pope to sharing AI-generated imagery of himself as Jesus – Congressman Jamie Raskin is demanding a formal cognitive health assessment.

The push signals a growing appetite among lawmakers to explore the 25th Amendment, which allows for the removal of a president deemed unable to discharge the powers and duties of the office.

Raskin’s call centers on whether the President’s increasingly volatile conduct represents a genuine threat to national security. In a letter released last week, Raskin argued:

“In recent days, the country has watched President Trump’s public statements and outbursts turn increasingly incoherent, volatile, profane, deranged, and threatening. At a time when our country is at war… the American people must be able to trust that the Commander-in-Chief has the mental capacity to discharge the essential duties of his office.”
