The upcoming genre-bending feature film Rapture is gearing up for production, bringing together an ensemble cast featuring Kit Connor, Manu Ríos, and Will Poulter.
Directed by acclaimed LGBTQ+ playwright and novelist Jordan Tannahill in his feature directorial debut, the project has drawn intense interest from queer audiences and horror fans alike.
Set in the year 1348 at the height of the Black Death, Rapture unfolds within the isolated stone walls of Lansley Abbey, a remote Yorkshire monastery housing ten devout monks.
Their routine of prayer is shattered when a messenger arrives bearing a gruesome affliction—a mysterious pandemic that begins with hemorrhagic fever and transforms its victims into restless, flesh-eating “revenants”.
As the undead close in and desperate outsiders beg for sanctuary, the brothers inside face a brutal moral fracture over whether to open their gates or protect their sacred ancient texts.
Beyond its high-stakes premise, the film has generated a massive buzz within the LGBTQ+ community due to its star-studded lead lineup. Featuring Heartstopper breakout Kit Connor, Élite star Manu Ríos, and genre veteran Will Poulter (Midsommar), the project unites some of modern streaming’s most recognizable young heartthrobs.
Tannahill, known for pushing boundaries and centering queer perspectives in works like his off-Broadway play Prince Faggot, has teased that the film will explore deep, passionate relationships among the cloistered brothers amidst the body horror. With production slated to take place in Hungary, Rapture promises an atmospheric, terrifying exploration of faith, isolation, and desire.
Filming for Rapture is scheduled to begin in October 2026, with production taking place on location in Hungary.
