CA Attorney General Rob Bonta
Nine Democratic state Attorneys General, including CA Attorney General Rob Bonta, have issued a joint pledge to defend the rights of transgender youth as the new school year begins.
These attorneys general vowed to “do whatever it takes” to ensure trans students have a safe and inclusive learning environment, free from discrimination.
This unified message is a direct response to a rise in state and federal policies that are hostile toward transgender students and their access to rights and healthcare.
They have highlighted several legal and administrative actions they are prepared to take, including filing lawsuits to challenge discriminatory policies and holding schools accountable under state laws that protect against hostile learning environments.
The group also encouraged students to report any instances of discrimination to state human rights and education departments.
The initiative is part of a broader, ongoing legal and political effort by Democratic state leaders to counter recent federal directives and state-level legislation targeting transgender youth.
