Los Angeles: Kristin Crowley – LAFD’s First Openly Gay Female Fire Chief – To Be Sworn In

Kristin Crowley will be sworn in as chief of the Los Angeles Fire Department Friday, marking the first time a woman and openly gay person has led the department, reports Patch.

Crowley will be sworn in at 3 p.m. at City Hall alongside Mayor Eric Garcetti, City Council President Nury Martinez and Councilwoman Monica Rodriguez, who chairs the City Council’s Public Safety Committee.

Garcetti nominated Crowley on Jan. 18, and her appointment was unanimously confirmed by the City Council on March 1.
