Scene from “Proud”
The upcoming Polish series Proud (Duma) is generating significant buzz after its world premiere at the Series Mania festival in Lille, France just a few days ago.
Produced by HBO Max (Max), it is being hailed as one of the most important queer dramas to come out of Poland in years.
The story follows Filip, a young, handsome, and somewhat arrogant model living a carefree, irresponsible life in Warsaw. He masks his inner insecurities with a sense of entitlement and fleeting romances.
His world is upended by a sudden family tragedy: the death of his sister. Filip is unexpectedly thrust into the role of a guardian for his young nephew.
The series explores his journey through grief and the struggle to balance his previous lifestyle with the new, heavy responsibility of surrogate parenthood.
Its streaming debut on HBO Max (Max) is expected later this year.
