Italian priest and social media star Alberto Ravagnani has officially left the priesthood, citing a deep-seated conflict with the Catholic Church’s mandatory celibacy.
As reported by The Telegraph, the 32-year-old influencer described the requirement to suppress his sexuality as “inhuman” and “hypocritical.”
Ordained in 2018, Ravagnani became a digital sensation by blending traditional faith with modern engagement.
However, his tenure was frequently marked by controversy, including criticism over his civilian attire and commercial brand partnerships.
Ravagnani’s departure – and his vocal critique of Church doctrine – has reignited intense debate regarding the future of the priesthood.
While transitioning to lay life, he intends to continue his youth ministry, further fueling discussions about the necessity of celibacy in the modern era and the role of digital evangelism in the Church.
