In the first major breakout of a sluggish festival market, NEON has secured worldwide rights to the gay psychological horror film Leviticus in a high-stakes, seven-figure deal.
The feature debut from writer/director Adrian Chiarella sparked an immediate bidding war, marking the first significant sale of the season.
Set against the backdrop of a repressive religious community, the film follows two teenage boys sent to a conversion therapy camp.
The psychological trauma of the program manifests as a literal, violent entity—a shapeshifter capable of taking the form of either boy. This forces the pair into a harrowing battle where they must distinguish the person they love from the monster designed to destroy their identity.
Critics are already calling the film a visceral masterpiece of “gay social horror,” praising its ability to turn the horrors of real-world conversion practices into a terrifying supernatural thriller.
NEON is fast-tracking the film for a theatrical release later this year.
