UPDATE: Bad News for “Red, White & Royal Blue” Fans

Nicholas Galitzine. Red, White & Royal Blue

A new report from entertainment insider Daniel Richtman indicates that fans of Red, White & Royal Blue 2 may have to wait longer than anticipated for the sequel. According to Richtman, filming for the highly anticipated follow-up is not expected to commence until mid to late 2026.

This reported delay is largely attributed to the increasingly busy schedule of star Nicholas Galitzine. Galitzine, who captivated audiences as the British Prince Henry, has been in high demand since the original film’s success, with recent prominent roles in films like The Idea of You and the upcoming live-action Masters of the Universe film, where he will portray He-Man.

Masters of the Universe reportedly wrapped filming in June 2025 and is slated for a June 5, 2026 release. He also has another film, Three Bags Full: A Sheep Detective Movie, in post-production for a 2026 release.

The original Red, White & Royal Blue, released on Amazon Prime Video on August 11, 2023, quickly became a global sensation. Based on the beloved 2019 New York Times bestselling novel by Casey McQuiston, the romantic comedy tells the story of a secret romance between Alex Claremont-Diaz (Taylor Zakhar Perez), the First Son of the United States, and Prince Henry (Nicholas Galitzine), a British royal.

Their initial public rivalry, stemming from a disastrous “cake-gate” incident at a royal wedding, unexpectedly blossoms into a clandestine love affair that challenges international relations and personal expectations. Directed by Matthew López in his feature film directorial debut, the movie was praised for its charming lead performances, their undeniable chemistry, and its heartwarming, optimistic portrayal of a queer relationship within a high-stakes political backdrop. It received generally positive reviews and was nominated for Outstanding Television Movie at the 76th Primetime Emmy Awards.
