TWO PEOPLE SHOT OUTSIDE ROOSTERFISH

Officers with the Los Angeles Police Department’s Pacific Division responded to reports of shots fired at Roosterfish in the 1300 block of Abbot Kinney Boulevard last month. When officers arrived, they found two people suffering from gunshot wounds to their legs. Both were taken to nearby hospitals for treatment. A third person was also located with injuries sustained while trying to take cover from the gunfire but was not transported, police said. According to the department, the suspect fled the scene before officers arrived and remains outstanding.

RED DRESS DRESS RED PARTY DRAWS THOUSANDS TO SUPPORT LGBTQ CENTER

More than 3,500 people gathered at the Palm Springs Air Museum last month for the annual Red Dress Dress Red Party, a high-energy fundraiser benefiting The LGBTQ Community Center of the Desert. Attendees arrived wearing creative red-themed outfits—a signature of the event that often features playful interpretations of the “red dress” concept—for an evening of music, performances and dancing aimed at celebrating LGBTQ community and visibility. The event supports programs and services provided by The Center, including HIV-related and LGBTQ social support initiatives across the Coachella Valley.

CONSTRUCTION OF PRIDE PLAZA IS HURTING HILLCREST BUSINESSES

Construction on the long-planned Pride Plaza and Normal Street Promenade in San Diego’s Hillcrest neighborhood is continuing with the goal of finishing before this summer’s San Diego Pride. The project will create what supporters describe as Hillcrest’s first public recreation space in a neighborhood that currently has no parks. But nearby businesses say construction disruptions since April have significantly reduced customer traffic and revenue. Businesses like Divo Diva Cafe are filing claims against the city for its revenue loss. Despite the challenges, some business leaders say many remain optimistic the new plaza and promenade will ultimately boost foot traffic.
