Morningside Recovery Treatment Center’s open, non-lockdown treatment model integrates care in a real-world setting.

By Joel Edwards

Morningside Recovery is an LGBTQ-friendly treatment center in beautiful Orange County, CA, that specializes in dual-diagnosis treatment, with focus on the psychological issues that often go hand-in-hand with addiction.

Our open, non-lockdown treatment model differs from many traditional programs by integrating care in a real-world setting and customizing programming for each individual’s unique needs.

We offer an array of programs and encourage constructive exposure to the community so clients learn the emotional and practical skills necessary to continue their lives of sustainable recovery long after treatment.

Morningside Recovery specializes in the treatment of psychological issues that often accompany addiction—grief, loss, trauma, low self-esteem, depression, and anxiety among them. In fact, 90% of addicts have suffered some form of trauma in their lifetime. Often, there are underlying mental health issues that drive addiction, which is referred to as dual-diagnosis or co-occurring disorders.

Core Emotions

For those in the LGBTQ community in particular, experiences of neglect, discrimination, misunderstanding, and abuse are common. Core emotions surrounding such powerful memories can drive some individuals to self soothe or medicate through drugs, alcohol, or certain process addictions like compulsive spending. We’re here to help!

Individualized treatment plans may include CBT, DBT, EMDR, and various group and alternative therapies to help resolve emotional symptoms of former traumas and confront addiction in a safe, confidential environment of understanding peers.

Addressing trauma this way allows clients to heal the mind as well as the body, as nutritional guidance and daily trips to the gym greatly improve clients’ physical health. Through our diversified and dynamic therapy programs, clients may choose to remain active and participate in holistic activities including yoga, acupuncture, psychodrama, tai chi, BioSound healing, and sweat lodge experiences. We also provide flexible family programming and fully support clients bringing their pet with them to treatment.

Custom Tailor Treatment

Our highly credentialed clinical team is comprised of multiple Doctorate level therapists and psychologists, Master’s level LMFTs and alternative therapy instructors, as well as a psychiatrist and professional nutritionist. Through this comprehensive guidance, we custom tailor treatment for each client through a broad selection of programs, ranging from traditional therapies such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and the 12 Steps, to more advanced therapies like Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), in addition to an extensive array of experiential therapies.

Clients also have the opportunity to try other evidence and science-based treatment tracks including Smart Recovery and Seeking Safety.

Among our specialty programs is the Morningside Adventure Program (MAP), an action-driven experiential program for those who seek renewed confidence and reflection in the outdoors through relationship-building activities. We also provide special school and vocational guidance through Morningside Academic Institute (MAI) and Launchpad.

MAI assists clients in every way possible as they strive to achieve their academic goals; Launchpad similarly guides clients through all aspects of job preparedness and employment during treatment.

With Morningside Recovery’s constant therapeutic support and supervision, clients may also attend classes at a local college, work part-time, bike with housemates to the beach, have their cell phone, and be visited by family whenever they’d like. In other words, they are as close to real life as they can get.

Support in this real-world context allows for a smooth transition into self-sufficient, sustainable recovery.
