My 12 Step Store, SWHCC, Giving Away Opioid Overdose Prevention Halloween Treat Bags

On October 31, 2019 at the West Hollywood annual Halloween carnival the SWHCC, a branch of the West Hollywood Project, will give away harm reduction treat bags.

The community coalition launched earlier this year to advocate for policies and resources geared toward reducing drug and alcohol problems in West Hollywood.  One of the group’s main focuses is methamphetamines (meth).

SWHCC will have a station in the parking lot of My 12 Step Store, 8730 Santa Monica Blvd, to distribute a variety of items that promote health and safety.  Along with My 12 Step Store, other partners include the City of West Hollywood Social Services Division, APLA Health, and Being Alive!

In addition to Halloween treats, the Halloween Carnival giveaways include:

  • Fentanyl test strips (Fentanyl is a powerful synthetic opioid prescribed for severe pain.  Since emerging on the illicit market in 2013, thousands of people have died of overdose from fentanyl-laced drugs).
  • Narcan (a medication that can reverse opioid overdose).
  • Condoms
  • Toiletries
  • Information on Substance Abuse Recovery services

“My 12 Step Store specializes in recovery gifts, books and meeting chips for all addictions,” said store owner RJ Holguin.   “We ship throughout the world, and our West Hollywood location has always partnered with organizations that are designed to serve the many aspects of the Recovery community. I believe we’re a perfect match to partner with these great organizations and offer harm reduction.”

Thursday October 31, 2019: My 12 Step Store hours are 10a – 1p and 3p – 11p. The Halloween carnival is 6 – 11p.
