Ben Whishaw Wins Golden Globe for his portrayal of a gay man in “A Very English Scandal”

Ben Whishaw paid tribute to “queer icon” Norman Scott, the stablehand he portrayed on the BBC TV show A Very English Scandal, when he won his Golden Globe last night, reports Gay Star News.

The Mary Poppins Returns star won the Golden Globe Award for Best Supporting Actor in a Series, Miniseries, or Motion Picture Made for Television for the role.

Speaking backstage at the ceremony, the actor, who is gay, also addressed gay actors playing straight roles in movies.

“I would like to see more gay actors playing straight roles,’ he said. ‘It needs to be an even playing field for everybody that would be my ideal.”
