Rainbow Hill Sober Living in Los Angeles provides a safe space for gay, bi, non-binary, questioning, and transgender men

BY VICTOR MELAMED

Rainbow Hill Sober Living was founded in April of 2021 by Joey Bachrach and Andrew Fox when they realized there was a need for sober livings specifically catered to members of the community.

“There are too many sober livings that claim to be LGBTQ ‘friendly’ and safe for members of our community when in fact they are the complete opposite,” states  Bachrach in an interview with THE FIGHT.

Bachrach and Fox took it upon themselves to create an exciting, colorful, but most importantly, safe space for gay, bi, non-binary, questioning, and transgender men.  They created a sober living environment where the residents pride themselves on being true to who they are so they can focus on their sobriety.

Angel Velasco, the House Manager for Rainbow Hill Sober Living, started out as a resident. “My first impression of RHSL was that it was different than any other sober living I had lived in before (and I’ve lived in A LOT of sober livings). The house is in a great neighborhood, it’s colorful and welcoming. Joey & Andrew have a very hands on approach and do a great job of assessing each person before they move in. They get to know the entire individual so that their specific needs can be addressed. I immediately sensed that I could be my truest, authentic self there,” says Velasco.

“As queer people, so often society forces us to exist in unsafe environments. Rainbow Hill Sober Living is the exception. Our community has specific needs and deserves specialized care. Joey and Andrew have created a safe space for the LGBT community to grow and heal from addiction. We proudly welcome anyone under the LGBT umbrella. If you are trans, you are safe here. If you are non-binary, you are safe here. Or if you’re just really super gay like me, you’re safe here.”
