For Women. By Women. Los Angeles LGBT Center Hosts 2nd Annual WxW

Following its successful inaugural run last year, the Los Angeles LGBT Center will host the second annual daylong WxW: For Women. By Women., a community celebration for LBTQ women and their allies on Saturday, May 11, from 2–6 p.m.

Held jointly at the Center’s Village at Ed Gould Plaza and the new Anita May Rosenstein Campus located directly across the street, the free event will include live music, performance art, a short film screening, a gender and size inclusive fashion show, interactive LBTQ-centric activities, and more. Full details and RSVP for FREE event at lalgbtcenter.org/wxw.

“Queer spaces for women are as vital to the community as they were when the Center began 50 years ago. It’s only fitting that this year’s event will be held at our new Anita May Rosenstein Campus which stands as a beacon of hope for the LGBTQ community and also happens to be named in honor of a strong, remarkable woman,” said WxW Chair Tui Lyon, who also serves as the Center’s Director of Special Events.

Sonya Renee Taylor, author of The Body Is Not An Apology–The Power of Radical Self-Love, will give the keynote address. Additionally, WxW guests may attend an array of life-enriching workshops, including salsa dance lessons, a yoga class, and an introduction to BDSM hosted by Mistress Justine Cross.

A resource fair highlighting the Center’s programs and health services designed for LBTQ women will be open during the four-hour event. Participants of the outdoor resource fair include local LGBT businesses, artists, and more.

Additional programs include a stage show hosted by Melanie Vesey, with performances by Queer Latin Dancing Los Angeles, drag king troupe Hir Bois, Lucy and La Mer, and West Coast Singers; a size and gender inclusive fashion show featuring designers Mokuyobi, The Plus Bus, Stuzo Clothing, and Superfit Hero. Music provided by DJ Sammi G.

Child-friendly activities include a bilingual pop-up book shop by Lil’ Libros; crafts by SparkleBlob; and a coloring and creative arts table.

In-kind sponsors include Tito’s Handmade Vodka, Angel City Brewery, Sprinkles Cupcakes, and The Pleasure Chest

Complimentary food and hosted bar. This event will be accessible for people of all abilities. Service animals and Emotional Support Animals are welcome.
