“Heartstopper” Sweep: Joe Locke and Alice Oseman Triumph at 2026 Family Emmys

The National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (NATAS) has officially announced the winners for the 2026 Children’s & Family Emmy Awards, with Heartstopper breakout star Joe Locke leading a night that celebrated a new era of diverse and sophisticated youth programming.

Locke took home the prestigious award for Outstanding Lead Performance in a Preschool, Children’s or Young Adult Program, cementing his status as one of the most influential young actors in the global television landscape.

Locke’s victory for his portrayal of Charlie Spring in the Netflix sensation Heartstopper comes during a pivotal year for the actor. The win recognizes his work in the show’s latest season, which critics praised for tackling more mature themes of mental health and long-distance relationships with “unrivaled sensitivity.”

In a poignant acceptance speech, Locke dedicated the award to “every kid who doesn’t see themselves as the leading man,” thanking the show’s creator, Alice Oseman, for providing a blueprint for queer joy and resilience.

Beyond Locke’s individual achievement, Heartstopper continued its streak as a Children’s & Family Emmy powerhouse, securing several key wins:

  • Outstanding Writing for a Young Adult Program: Awarded to Alice Oseman.

  • Outstanding Casting for a Live-Action Program: Recognizing the show’s ability to discover and elevate emerging talent.

While Netflix hasn’t set an exact date yet, the final chapter of the series, officially titled Heartstopper Forever, is slated for release in the second half of 2026. Instead of a fourth season, Heartstopper Forever will serve as a feature-length series finale.
