Soccer star Josh Cavallo and his fiancé, Leighton Morrell, are embarking on a significant new chapter. The couple is moving from Cavallo’s native Australia to the United Kingdom, where new opportunities in both football and life await them.
Cavallo, who made global headlines in 2021 as one of the few active male professional soccer players to come out as gay, shared the news on Instagram, stating, “It’s not goodbye forever but now, it’s time to leave the nest with my fiancé by my side.”
He expressed gratitude for his journey so far, acknowledging the profound impact of his platform, particularly within the LGBTQ+ community.
The move to the U.K. has been anticipated, with reports in May suggesting Cavallo would likely head to Europe after his contract with Australian club Adelaide United concluded. While he has faced some injury struggles recently, his influence extends far beyond the pitch, as he continues to be a vocal advocate for inclusion and acceptance in sports and society.
Last March, Cavallo proposed to Morrell on the Adelaide United pitch, a moment that beautifully symbolized the intersection of his personal life and groundbreaking public identity.
With this new move, the couple is set to begin a fresh adventure, with Cavallo also reportedly developing a luxury inclusive resort in Bali, further cementing his commitment to creating safe and welcoming spaces.
