Australian gymnast Heath Thorpe, known for both his athletic prowess and his vibrant social media presence, has playfully announced a temporary halt to his signature “thirst trap” photos as he prepares for the upcoming World University Games, reports Outsports.
Thorpe, who is openly gay and has garnered a significant following for his shirtless and in-action gymnastics posts, took to Instagram to inform his 150k+ followers that the stream of risqué content would be pausing. “Last thirst trap before the incoming storm of gymnastics content,” he wrote, acknowledging his transition from internet heartthrob to dedicated competitor.
The move comes as Thorpe heads to the 2025 Summer World University Games, where he will represent Australia. Fans, however, are well aware that the visually stunning nature of men’s gymnastics, with its focus on strength, flexibility, and powerful routines, means that even his competition photos are likely to continue to be, in his own words, a “walking thirst trap.”
Thorpe has been a vocal advocate for LGBTQ+ visibility in sports and has challenged heteronormative stereotypes within men’s gymnastics, often incorporating artistry into his routines. His strong start to 2025, including a recent gold medal in Luxembourg, indicates he’s in prime form for the University Games. While his “thirst traps” may be on hold, his captivating performances are sure to keep eyes on him.
