Adult film star Seth Knight ventures into a new role behind the camera

Seth Knight grew up in a small town in Texas called Wichita Falls. He was that kid who loved reptiles and spent hours in his grandmother’s backyard digging up her flower beds to find frogs. Knight also played soccer and tennis and he dabbled in theater.
He found his way into adult film at the age of 18, while living in Austin, working at the bars. “I picked up a local LGBTQ magazine and there was an interview with a porn agent. I saved that magazine just in case my 40-year-old architect designer boyfriend dumped me and I wanted to do something crazy with my life. Sure enough, he did, and so I did.”
That was sixteen years ago. While Knight remains a popular personality in adult film, he’s now venturing into a new role behind the camera, directing, editing, and shooting new content for the adult film content creator, Pines Play Studios, based in Fire Island Pines.
“We capture the natural hookups and fun that happen on this secluded gay island,” reveals Knight.
Are these films meant to be an honest depiction of life and sex on Fire Island Pines?
Yes, most of them. Sometimes we create a fantasy, but generally, they’re pretty honest.
How do you find the guys that you feature in the films?
Mostly through social media. I’ve been around, so I know a lot of people and have many connections. Right now, I’m choosing people who are respectful, deserving, and whom I know I could work with repeatedly.
What do you love most about the island?
It’s an escape, a jungle, an experience. You won’t find anything like it anywhere else. One of the reasons I can’t move away from NYC is because I’d have to give up Fire Island, and I won’t and can’t, and you can’t make me (laughing).
What do you enjoy most about the adult film industry?
I love the travel. I would never have been able to travel as much as I have, and still do, if it weren’t for this industry.

What do you dislike most about the industry?
The egos and the people we make famous who don’t deserve it. I’ve seen a lot of things. Just because you shoot porn doesn’t mean you have to associate with industry people. I like doing my own thing and not having all my friends in the industry. But don’t get me wrong, I’ve met wonderful people who will always have a place in my heart.
What inspired you to transition from in front of the camera to your new role behind the camera as director of Pines Play Studios?
I’m getting older, and I always think about my future and long-term goals. I love directing and shooting and I love that people see a different side of me and appreciate it. Directing, editing, and managing is a whole new challenge, and I’m ready for it.
What is the one thing you would warn your young self about, if you had the chance?
You don’t need anyone to make you happy. You just need to be happy with yourself.
