The darkly comic queer film Cutaways introduces audiences to a fearless leading man in Silas Kade. He delivers a riveting performance as Evan Quick, a disgraced indie filmmaker who—following a career-ending social media backlash—is forced to direct a gay adult film to survive.
Kade describes Evan as a “feral cat”—world-weary and aggressive, yet fueled by fear. Rather than a simple critique of cancel culture, Kade explores the psychological trap of having no path forward. The tension peaks when he faces off against a manipulative producer played by queer cinema legend James Duval, representing the brutal reality of selling art to those who only value power.
Despite themes of self-loathing and industry erasure, the film leans into a sharp, dark humor. “Laughing about how scared or confused we all are is a great way to connect,” Kade notes, drawing from his own life experiences to bring bite to the role.
Ultimately, Cutaways is a testament to the human impulse to create, even when that creation is self-destructive.
Cutaways arrives February 3, 2026, on Amazon Prime and Vimeo on Demand.
