In an exciting update for British cinema and theater fans, Joe Locke has officially joined the star-studded cast of “Elsinore,”a biographical drama centered on the life of legendary Scottish actor Ian Charleson.

Locke, who shot to fame in Heartstopper and recently starred in Marvel’s Agatha All Along, joins an elite ensemble led by Andrew Scott and Olivia Colman.

The film, currently in production in the UK, tells the poignant true story of Ian Charleson’s final years. Charleson, a beloved figure in British acting known for Chariots of Fire and Gandhi, died of AIDS-related complications in 1990 at the age of 40.

The movie specifically focuses on his legendary 1989 performance as Hamlet at London’s National Theatre—a role he famously took over from Daniel Day-Lewis and performed while privately battling the late stages of AIDS.

Andrew Scott will portray Ian Charleson. Scott, no stranger to the role of Hamlet himself (having received rave reviews for his stage performance in 2017), is also serving as a producer.

Olivia Colman plays Charleson’s doctor. This marks a highly anticipated reunion for Scott and Colman, who famously shared the screen in Fleabag.

Joe Locke’s specific character in Elsinore has not yet been detailed.
