LA County Moves to Restore LGBTQ+ Crisis Hotline Option Removed Under Trump Admin

The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors has taken a significant step toward improving crisis support for the LGBTQ+ community, voting unanimously this week to launch a new, multi-tiered effort.

Championed by LA County Supervisor Janice Hahn and other legislative leaders, the series of motions aims to bring back the “Press 3” option—a dedicated, community-specific line for LGBTQ+ crisis support—not only within Los Angeles County but also on the state and national levels.

The renewed effort is driven by the fact that the dedicated “Press 3” prompt on the national 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline was previously removed by the ever so loving Trump administration.

The newly passed motions direct county agencies to create a new LGBTQ+ Hotline pilot program within the County to ensure immediate, culturally competent support is available locally.
