Trans Lineage Project Returns: World Premiere Trilogy “Rites of Passage”

Nico Pang, Petey Gibson

Celebration Theatre’s cherished Trans Lineage Project (formerly Tales of the Transcestors) is back for its fourth year with a brand new, world premiere trilogy: “Rites of Passage.”

Co-produced with Greenway Arts Alliance, this limited-run show features electric new one-act plays by three trans playwrights that explore the crucial, defining moments of trans identity across time and culture.

The ambitious works include stories of:

A Black transmasculine griot reclaiming ancestral memory.

A transfeminine nun navigating faith during the bubonic plague.

A gay Korean trans man confronting aging.

The production is helmed by returning creative team members Director Nico Pang (they/he) and Producer Petey Gibson (he/him), and features a stellar, all-trans/GNC ensemble cast including Alex Song-Xia (Netflix Is A Joke), Lee Baladejo, Olabisi Kovabel, Phi Kenzie, and Shawn Christopher Lovell Nabors.

Director Nico Pang: “When trans communities create and reimagine our own rites of passage, ceremony becomes an act of remembering… an insistence on our futures.”

Producer Petey Gibson: “To feel the warmth of my own trans ancestors uplifting the work… it’s been a hug and a reminder that we are here, we’ve been here, we’re not going anywhere.”

The production runs for 8 shows only at the Greenway Court Theatre in Los Angeles, December 4th through December 14th.
