Lithuanian filmmaker Romas Zabarauskas’ new feature, The Activist, a compelling thriller exploring themes of guilt and justice within the LGBTQ+ community, is now available to stream in the USA on the Dekkoo platform.
The film, the third in Zabarauskas’s queer-themed trilogy, is a dark crime story set in Kaunas, Lithuania, just before the city’s first-ever Pride march. It follows Andrius, a printing house worker and secret lover of a prominent murdered activist, Deividas.
Consumed by guilt and frustration over the police investigation, Andrius makes the dangerous choice to infiltrate a local neo-Nazi gang—suspected of the killing—to uncover the truth himself.
The drama is praised for its tense psychological suspense and sharp commentary on the hidden costs of activism and the social pressures facing the LGBTQ+ community in Eastern Europe.
