A new short film, created to promote Oslo Pride in Norway, is resonating globally with its universal message of acceptance. The video, shared last week on Oslo Pride’s social media, has already garnered 1.5 million views on Facebook, powerfully illustrating the significance of the rainbow flag for the LGBTQ+ community.
The accompanying Norwegian caption translates to: “There’s a lot of talk about what the rainbow colors mean these days. The answer is quite simple: Showing who you are – or who you stand with – isn’t just a decoration. It means that there’s room for you, that you belong and that you’re safe.”
The film depicts relatable moments, such as a man on a train feeling self-conscious about his posture until he notices a rainbow wristband on the person across from him, leading to his visible relaxation. In another scene, a queer couple hesitates to hold hands while ordering a cab until they spot a rainbow “Trygg” (Norwegian for “safe”) sticker inside the taxi. These vignettes highlight how subtle symbols of support can create a profound sense of belonging and safety.
