Acclaimed nonbinary actor, writer, producer, and activist Vico Ortiz (“Our Flag Means Death,” “Fionna and Cake”) brings their powerful new solo show, “RISE OF A KING,” to the Hollywood Fringe Festival this Pride Month.
This highly anticipated production offers a heartfelt burlesque journey through Ortiz’s childhood, using drag to explore themes of liberation and self-reconnection.
Blending humor, vulnerability, and magic, “RISE OF A KING” is a moving and hilarious story about discovering and embracing one’s true self and reconnecting with loved ones. Directed by Ismanuel Rodríguez and developed in collaboration with Nikki Levy, it’s a genre-breaking experience that challenges traditional notions of identity.
Ortiz describes the show as a “love letter to my family and to an older (younger) version of myself,” hoping audiences will find empowerment in their own “messy magic” journeys.
The West Coast premiere runs June 12, 16, and 18 at Greenway Court Theatre as part of the Hollywood Fringe Festival. Produced by Celebration Theatre, in association with BoriQueer Productions and Tantai Teatro, tickets are available at celebrationtheatre.org/king.
An ASL-interpreted performance is scheduled for Monday, June 16.
