Deadline reveals that Will Poulter (Midsommar), Kit Connor (Heartstopper), and Manu Ríos (Elite) will star in the highly anticipated horror film Rapture, which HanWay Films will introduce at the Cannes market.
The intriguing premise unfolds in Medieval England, 1348, at the isolated Lansley Abbey in Yorkshire. Ten monks living a life of rigid routine find their peace shattered by a messenger bearing grim news and the early signs of a mysterious illness.
A devastating plague, beginning with hemorrhagic fever and transforming victims into undead “revenants,” sweeps the land. As the contagion approaches, Lansley Abbey becomes a site of conflict: desperate people seek shelter while the infected threaten to breach its walls.
A moral divide fractures the monks – some believe in caring for the sick, while others prioritize protecting the monastery’s ancient knowledge. With death rampant, the brothers face their capacity for both profound altruism and brutal betrayal, forcing them to confront the fundamental question of humanity.
Playwright Jordan Tannahill makes his directorial debut with this film, slated to begin production in Hungary later this year.
This film marks a reunion for Poulter and Connor, who recently appeared together in Alex Garland’s Warfare. Ríos, a Spanish actor and singer, also featured in Pedro Almodovar’s Strange Way Of Life.
