lvaro Lafuente Calvo, known to his fans as the Barcelona-born Guitarricadelafuente, burst onto the indie scene in 2022 with his debut album, La Cantera. This impressive first offering earned him a Latin Grammy nomination, solidifying his status as a rising star, reports Queerty.
A year later, Guitarrica, who proudly identifies as gay, experienced a significant career lift when Troye Sivan collaborated with him. Their funky track, “In My Room,” became a powerful moment of LGBTQ+ solidarity, bridging cultures and languages.
Now at 27, Guitarricadelafuente is embracing a bolder image and deeper vulnerability with his second album, Spanish Leather. The music video for “Full Time Papi” is a testament to this evolution, showcasing his physique alongside intimate portrayals of male affection.
Musically, Spanish Leather weaves together tales of romance and desire with the rich sounds of Spanish and Latin American folk music, evident in the euphoric “Pipe Dream” and the stunning “Tramuntana.”
With this new album, Guitarricadelafuente is blossoming into a queer heartthrob, crafting timeless and borderless pop that draws inspiration from the past.
Prior to the album’s release, he spoke with Queerty, sharing insights into his collaboration with Sivan, his transformation into a confident “Papi,” dream collaborations, and more.
