Alexander Skarsgård experienced a surge of appreciation at Cannes, receiving an enthusiastic seven-minute standing ovation for his film Pillion. He reciprocated the love by warmly embracing and affectionately kissing Pedro Pascal’s cheek, who was among the applauding audience, reports The Hollywood Reporter.

Harry Lighton‘s directorial debut, Pillion, premiered this Sunday morning in Salle Debussy, captivating a crowd that included Pascal, Coralie Fargeat (director of The Substance), and David Hinojosa (Babygirl).

The Un Certain Regard selection is a sexy, BDSM-themed dramedy centered on Colin (played by Harry Melling), a reserved young Londoner. On Christmas Eve, Colin meets Ray (Skarsgård), the charismatic and alluring leader of a motorcycle club, at a local pub.

Following a passionate encounter, Ray takes Colin under his wing, establishing a dominant-submissive dynamic that forms the core of their relationship.

David Rooney, chief film critic for The Hollywood Reporter, lauded Lighton’s sensitive portrayal of the film’s sexually charged themes and its focus on Colin’s character development and humanity, noting its comedic elements.

The 2025 Cannes Film Festival will continue until May 24th.
